About This Blog
I have created this blog to discuss about painting and painting-related matters here in Singapore. There are always lots of enquiries about the types of material to use, what to do to solve certain problems, the right techniques for certain repairs etc. Many new homeowners also want to budget painting into their renovation cost and prices of common paint-related items are not readily available. Others want to know tips to get some jobs done quickly and smoothly. I will try to address all these here. At the same time, if you find that you are able to contribute, or if you have a problem which you need help solving, feel free to leave a comment. No question is too silly. Just ask. I promise to treat all comments with the same level of respect intended by the writer.

Note also that this blog will contain information useful regardless of the country you reside in. However, the tools and materials mentioned here may not be available in your country and alternatives may affect results. The prices of materials may also be different from those here in Singapore. All prices are quoted in Singapore Dollars.

About My Company
Since 1953….

My company opened for business in 1953. For the first 2 decades, we serviced the marine industry as a ship chandler. The product range included whatever marine vessels required. However, in the past twenty years, we have shifted our core business to paint.

Today, we have become a part of Singapore’s biggest paint retail group. We carry all the major brands in the decorative, industrial and marine paint industry. We are also a niche player in the yacht paint business. In the past few years, our export business has increased significantly, and is now an important part of our business.

It is our goal to become a paint “solution provider”. Sourcing from different brands and manufacturers, we are able to give our customer premium products as well as premium painting systems to choose from.

Currently, we have 2 outlets. One in Tanjong Katong and the other along North Bridge Road. The addresses are as follows:

Dear expressjim,
Yes, it is possible to paint on veneer but you would need to first prime the surface. You can use an alkyd undercoat or Zinsser Bullseye 123 (see post on Bullseye 123). If the varnish coat is quite recent, sanding it down would improve adhesion. If you have holes or scratches, fill it with a wood putty and sand it smooth before the primer coat. You can use most types of wood paint. The key here is the priming it prior to the top coat.
The downside with painting veneer is that you lose the look of wood, but I suppose it didn’t appeal to you in the first place. Let me know if you have further questions.
